A little bit about the Prospect Players...
The Prospect Players is an extremely friendly amateur dramatic group based in Arnold, Nottingham. Now in our 36th year, we have staged over 100 productions.
We have rehearsals twice a week, traditionally Tuesdays and Fridays, at the Pondhills Community Centre in Arnold. We consider our high standard of performance to be mainly attributed to that of teamwork and friendship.
The group usually performs three shows a season, which lasts from November to May each year. All our performances are currently based at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold, Nottingham (which is part of the Arnold Leisure Centre). The shows that we perform range across a whole spectrum of genres, from farce and mystery, to musicals and period dramas.
Want to join us? Why don’t you come along and meet us? You don’t necessarily have to act, as we’re looking for members to help out backstage or front of house. We'd love to hear from you as we're always looking for new members who are enthusiastic and want to enjoy themselves!
You can find directions to the theatre and the rehersal room, learn more about the history of the group and the productions we have put on and view pictures from some of our more recent productions. Also, we have added links to other sites where you can learn more about theatre and drama in Nottingham, as well as learn more about some famous playwrights...and some not so famous too!
History of the Prospect Players...
The Prospect Players were founded in 1973, when they were known as the St Mark's Players. In the early years the group put on two productions a year at Arnold Hill School. A few years later, the group moved their productions to Redhill School, still putting on two productions a year in the half term holidays.
In 1980 the group changed its name to the Prospect Players, and in 1982 changed the venue for its productions to the newly opened Bonington Theatre.
The group has always tried to present its audiences with a wide range of plays. Over the years, the group has performed plays by William Shakespeare, Moliere, George Bernard Shaw, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Oscar Wilde, Harold Pinter, Noel Coward, Dylan Thomas, Eric Idle and Jeffrey Archer...to name but a few!
In 2004, the group entered the world of musical theatre for the first time with its production of Sing For Your Supper - a tribute to the music and lyrics of Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. After this met with great success, in 2005 the group put on their own production of 'Oliver!' by Lionel Bart. Again, this was met with great success. Find out more about our past productions here.
